AT&T Dream In Black Future Maker contest winner Kyla Rose Bates, is a poet, author, motivational orator, and mentor. Kyla is a native of Zachary, Louisiana. Currently, she attends Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College studying Business Management and concentrating in Human Resources. Kyla grants her many successes to her humble beginnings. The beautiful world of visual and performing arts was introduced to her at a very young age by her mother, the late Joyce Marie Armstrong Bates. It is through the arts that Kyla has found her passion that is fueling her purpose. Kyla’s vision for the future includes being the founder and owner of a visual and performing arts conservatory that will serve her community's youth in dedication to her mother’s life and memory. She believes that it is through the arts that one can tell their story wholeheartedly and unapologetically. Every day, Kyla strives to make an impact in a young child’s life that will play an intricate role in their future. Her daily motivation is the hope that the light that shines through her will be a guiding light that ignites future makers to come.
